Wild animals are an important part of English vocabulary, from familiar animals like lions and elephants to birds, reptiles, fish, and insects. In this lesson, you’ll learn common wild animal names, organized into different animal groups.
What Are Wild Animals?
Wild animals are animals that are not domesticated and usually live in natural environments without being owned or raised by people. They find their own food, shelter, and places to live. The word wild does not mean that an animal must be large or dangerous; squirrels, frogs, deer, and butterflies are wild animals too.
Wild animals live in many different habitats. Lions and zebras live in grasslands, bears and deer can live in forests, camels live in deserts, and whales and dolphins live in the ocean. Some wild animals, such as foxes, squirrels, and raccoons, can also live close to towns and cities.
